Well, sorry to say I won't be out at Redwood School tomorrow. Had a surprise visit from some family. Good news though - got my foamie built and tried to maiden it (very squirelly!) Crashed several times, no breakage (!!!), still trying to get the CG right. Then I'll trim it out and be ready for some 3D ;D

FINALLY started working on My Predator FPV project. Nitroplanes.com sells this ARF kit (http://www.nitroplanes.com/4eluavrqprra.html) for under $62 and calls it a RQ-1 Predator, though looking through the build thread (http://www.rcuniverse.com/forum/m_5826832/mpage_1/key_/tm.htm) the people posting have found it actually to be the MQ-9 Reaper. Regardless, it's a great platform for my FPV plans! Will start a new thread in the AP/FPV forum with details as the build progresses. Stay tuned...

More pics from flying at Femming Middle School in Merlin...
The F-35, Pitts Bipe, and F18C are mine. Sadly, the F-35 disintegrated flying full speed into a tree :(
GPS, note the number of Super Cubs! There are two more in our group that weren't able to make it this day.

This is the result of yet another tree "incident".  Fortunately, I was able to glue it all back together, and the new paint scheme hides most of the battle scars 8)

How many jets do you have Golden Child?  That F-35 is looking good!  What size fan?

The F-18C pictured above is currently sporting Oregon Ducks colors. This is the one you saw me fly at Redwood School last Sunday. The F-35 made only two flights in it's VERY short lifetime. The 70mm EDF/ESC combo I showed you, plus a few servos, are all that's left of it now :-\

The A-10 pictured belongs to my boss. He's had that in more pieces than both of my jets combined!!!

I did see the "Warthog" in the picture but forgot to mention it.  So that was the F35 you mentioned to me at the field.  That is a nice looking plane, how much would it cost to get a replacement airframe?

The replacement airframe for the F-35 is $130, plus another $50 for the battery. But I have already used many of the elctronics in other projects. The original Rx-ready plane was $200. I have changed the direction I am looking to in airplanes - I am more into 3D, dogfighting, and general aerobatics than blazing speed (the reason for the tree strike in the first place!).

Do you have a link to the website where you got that F-35?  Did you get the Predator from the same place?  If not, do you have a link to that website too?

    The F-35 came from Hobby-Lobby.com http://www.hobby-lobby.com/f_35_lightning_360_degree_thrust_vectoring_jet.htm?pSearchQueryId=1854096

    The F-18 came from NitroPlanes.com and it's on sale!!! (I paid $127.70 + shpg.) http://www.nitroplanes.com/93a18-f18-grey-arf.html

The Predator also came from NitroPlanes.com and it's price actually has gone up (I paid $54 +shpg.) http://www.nitroplanes.com/4eluavrqprra.html

On another note, I just ordered a Seawind Seaplane from TowerHobbies.com http://www3.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin/wti0001p?&I=LXVPE5&P=ML
I expect to have it by Thursday or Friday and have it built in time for my club's float fly at Lake Selmac on the 24th.

OK, so after nearly two months without a crash or even a broken prop, I finally had a major disaster. The battery in my Pitts bipe apparently came unplugged and she took a header into the ground last Sunday out at Redwood School. Also lost thrust in my F-18 and took another hard landing onto the parking lot asphalt which (again) broke off the wings on the left side. Fixed the jet at the field to (hopefully) get some arial shots from Flightbox Dave who came out to do some photo/video of us. All went well the rest of the day - GREAT day for flying!!! I'll get the bipe fixed in the next couple of days 8)

Did a bench test of the Seawind. It looks ready for Lake Selmac this Saturday :D :D :D
Did CG tests with ALL of my batteries. All 3S, but different sizes and weights. I think I'm all dialed-in!
Chris , Joe, and Craig from Sunday flying at Redwood have commited to coming out, as well as the RVF of course. All are welcome to come out and share in the fun - I'll have coffee on 8)
Highland, I'll have my new NQD out there as well if you're free Saturday or Sunday. I'll stay until around noon an Sunday. Hope to see you all there!

The fit and finish were OK, not great, but not terrible either. About typical of Great Planes brand that I've built so far.

The electronics on the other hand, as is typical for this brand, are top notch. The motor is very powerful, and servos return to center accurately.

    My float plane armada...
Didn't get time to put the floats on the F-18 (they are a balsa kit), so that will be my project over the next couple of weeks
Otherwise, it was a great weekend of flying at Lake Selmac. Hope to do it again soon before the weather turns to crap!
