I have programmed on and off but excluding web work it's been a while.  What I've done was mostly database manipulation.  I've never did any firmware but making stuff move has always interested me.

I downloaded the OpenPilot GCS and was messing with it.  I was very impressed that they have a Linux version.  After tinkering with that I got a renewed interest in their copter control board, but you just can't get the darn things anywhere.  That's what got me thinking about the hardware since it seemed to me that everyone and their brother is coming out with them lately.

Got my KK2 board today!  Powered it up and played around in the menus a little.  This thing looks really slick.  I'll bring it to Redwood for show and tell tomorrow.  Now I just need to throw something together to fly it on.  I see on the HK site that they are actually shown as in stock now.  I'm impressed!

Did you see that rate setting?

DID YOU SEE THE RATE SETTING?!?!?!?!

    THE RATE SETTING!!!

You can, at the press of a button, set the ESC outputs to 80 Hz for operating a servo........

They built this thing for variable pitch multirotors and just have not told anyone yet........

    :)  :D  ;D

I have my KK2 lifting off in the living room, but the PID settings are all whacked and it is really jumpy and jittery. Much tuning to do.....

I think I got it ready for a real test flight. So far I am SUPER impressed with this thing. I don't really know what I am doing, but with PID settings and just playing with it in the house it looks real nice (i have not hit the couch yet). The self level seems to be a sort of attitude mode like NAZA, when active it only wants to tilt to maybe a 30-35 degree angle and no more (or less). I have it returning to level when I let go of the stick (watch out co pilot, you just got some competition).

I read in the guide this quote:

for Servo: Output PWM rate can be high or low. Outputs the offset value when disarmed or throttle
is at idle. - "Rate":High rate (400Hz) for ESC or digital servos, or low rate (80Hz) for analog servos.

They say the HIGH rate of 400 Hz is ok for DIGITAL servos...........

    Hmmmmmmmm

Not yet, still trying to figure this all out. The PI settings for auto level make no sense to me.

Tiger was telling us this morning that he played around with a KK2 yesterday for a couple hours and couldn't get it to work right.  He also said he found a good explanation of the settings from the developer somewhere and would post that link.

Just found a new posting on HobbyKing for setup and tuning the KK2.  Guess they finally figured out a P of 150 wasn't going to work.

That was pretty clever.  Love the rubber bands too.
