Well, Spring is here and the Rogue Valley Flyers are having thier first float fly of the season. This event is open to all AMA members. We will be flying out of campsite #41 in Heron Loop on the SW end of the lake. Starts at 9am this Saturday, May 5th, and goes until 3-ish. Come on out and fly or just watch. Always lots to see
It was a light turnout. We were competing against Rogue Eagles' swap meet in Medford and a very strong wind and cold temps. Of the seven of us that came out, only two of us actually flew. I flew my Seawind which was an absolute pleasure. I had forgotten how beautifully it flys, even in the stiff winds we had. I also tried flying my AeroModel Aqua Cat but had ESC issues. I did get it off the water, but then it lost power. A few seconds later the ESC reset itself and I was able to taxi back in. Chris flew his Slow Stick which he put floats on Very cool! The Stick flew just like it tipically does and handled the wind just great. He also tried to fly the Lake LA-4 I sold him. He also got it off the water, but the wind was just too strong and it tipped over on the right wing and went in the drink. The crash broke the canopy up pretty well, but no other visible damage that we could find. I'm hoping that his motor and electronics survived. I'll ask him later today at Redwood. Jack Schaefer made floats for his Park Zone Stinson SR-10 and it looked GREAT! It was too windy to fly such a beautiful bird, but he did taxi it around to check float placement and balance. It was dead-on. Jack really is a fantastic modeler. Dennis Grow and High-Dollar Rick from Redwood both came out to watch. It was nice to see them there. Here are a few pics.
