    That is interesting but fiberoptic cable is really expensive compared to CAT6 and CAT6 Ethernet can be wired for POE (power over ethernet).  In the end it's a tethered system and if you want to just hover that's cool, but not if you want to fly.

    In this direction there was an article where they powered the UAV with a laser which would still be considered a tether I guess.  I'm not sure if the laser powered UAV was also sending bi-directional communications over the same laser beam that they used for power.

    Personally I think telephone and power poles with all those wires are an eyesore and those wires should be buried in the ground.  Now they want to have drones flying with dangling cables.  I hope that never takes off.
