On Saturday, December 17th, 2011 from 9:00 AM until 4:00 PM we will be holding a preliminary track day at the Josephine County Fairgrounds in Grants Pass, Oregon.

This is a preliminary track day to gauge interest in order to determine how we will proceed in organizing further frequency and usage of the Josephine Country Fairgrounds facilities.

We estimate the cost per driver for the track day will be between $5 and $10 for the full day.  The exact cost will be posted by Tuesday, December 13th.

The December 17th track day will be for electric powered off-road vehicles only.  We are still evaluating usage of gas and nitro powered vehicles together with the Fairgrounds management and that matter will be answered soon.

It is important that everyone interested in having this great public facility to race at regularly come out and show your support on the 17th.  Please help us get a good turnout by telling your RC friends and getting them to come on out and join us.

If you limit it to electric only, then it will not develop well, if at all.  The big boys like I have been saying who bring the time, money and effort run nitro rigs period.  We run electric only for goofing off.  If it is electric only I will have to cancel myself and people I have out at this time.

I'm really glad to see this taking shape.
Unfortunately I won't be able to attend on the 17th.
But I would very much like to show my support for this venue and the efforts of those involved.
I would like to make a modest monetary donation.

Can you setup a paypal account for such?

Thank you for your support Smitty.  Can I get back to you on the donation?  I have another meeting yet to determine the terms and how we will proceed with this venture.  I should have more information to share with everyone soon.

I will try to be there too.Hopefully we can get some nitro in eventually ,even if we hang a soft wall for baffling (like tarping?)...I bet from outside the structure,it will be pretty quiet.

GPS - I would imagine management will drop in to the event to see what it's all about.  Might be a plan for Pile Of Toys or someone to bring ONE nitro car for a little demo so that as this progresses they will at least know what you are talking about.

Tiger - There is a set of concerns we are discussing with the fairgrounds management on the issue of gas/nitro vehicles that are outside of the scope and purpose of the track day on the 17th.  It has already been agreed with the fairgrounds that the 17th is electric only.

Please don't encourage people to bring gas/nitro vehicles to the event on the 17th.

I agree with you. The turnout I know will be at least four more people if nitro was included. Maybe more. Be careful guys it sounds as if it's already turning ugly so to speak. Not trying to be a downer but I've seen this scenario play out WAY to many times to think otherwise. The fairgrounds I guarantee you is not concerned with noise, if they were there would be no fair and no tuff/monster truck events there.

Remember the MX track that used to be located in the center of the horse track? It got closed down due to noise complaints. I am sure they are concerned about noise. The field backs up to houses, monster trucks only happen once a year but regular noise every weekend is different.

To be honest I thought all this fairgrounds talk was about the Jackson County Expo fairgrounds, out there noise would not be an issue. Plus there is tons of extra land there suitable for a track.

I like seeing the effort for a track even if it does go electric only. I will try to make it and will encourage some friends to show as well.

Thank you Bret, and everyone, for your support. I guarantee the fairgrounds management IS concerned about noise. I was there, I heard Wes Brown, the fairgrounds manager, state that very concern. But even more than noise, the concern for fuel spillage is in their minds. We are using the same facility that is used for livestock during 4H events, the county fair, etc. Horses, cows, sheep, goats, pigs, etc. will all be using the same dirt we run our cars on from June through August. Nitro/gas cars spill fuel through the exhaust when they run. This is a concern for the fairgrounds management. We are trying to find solutions to these, and other, concerns so that ALL will be welcome to run their RC vehicles on this track. No behind the scenes drama/scheming, no secret "let's exclude them" agreements. ALL are welcome so long as ALL get along! If the so-called "big boys" (yes sinistercad, that comment was clearly offensive) want to be included, all they have to do is HELP to alleviate the concerns that HAVE been voiced. We are still trying to schedule a preliminary run of nitro cars for the fairgrounds staff to evaluate their impact. Sinsistercad, you offered to bring some cars out to demo, if that offer is still there, we still want to get that arranged. You clearly have the experience and knowledge that is needed by this hobby, but we can't have opposing atttitudes. Nitro is not better than electric. Electric is not better than nitro. They're simply different.

I do not think that one is better than the other, but I am telling you without a doubt that nitro is where it is.  Look at all the large tracks, Nitro Pit, Rattlesnake, team one, Team Indy, etc etc.  All nitro, all you here about in actual racing is Nitro not electric.  I would also like to say that when I say "big Boys"  I mean it, these are the people that bring MONEY/FUNDS/TIME into a track, I did not mean it offensively, you all need to remember as do I about how things come across in text only not in person.  Look at John's comment about no nitro on the 17th, as an outsider that seemed like an exclusion, but if you were to include your part about the impact of nitro and where we were it would come across alot more appropriately.  In closing I have one of almost every nitro vehicle class along with a couple of 1/5th scale rigs, I would be more than happy to bring one or two down, just need to know when and were and also surface I will be running on.

We have several track layouts in mind, and we have (so far) four persons with shovels/rakes/etc. committed to coming out to get the track setup as well as my tractor and roller.

With that many you should be able to throw something together, if you need help I'm available on Sunday's most of the time and about one to two saturdays a month.  Have you called around to find any abandoned pipe for barriers? I can't remember were Chad got his, but I remember there was a couple construction sites willing to give the scrap to us.  Please I beg of you though, make the jumps more than one foot!!!!!! lol

That truly is most gracious of you! For now we are going to just use the dirt piled-up as bariers. We still aren't sure how many people are REALLY serious about turning out on a regular basis. Gotta have the people bringing in the $$ before we can justify spending money on track necessities that may go unused :-[ I will definitely keep you in the loop as things develop more. Thanks again!!!

While you're on the subject of jumps, what would your preferrence be? Height? Distance between (doubles, triples, tabletop)? We're still open to suggetions/help. Especially from those that are into it and know what they're talking about.

I think that if the dementions of the ridding arena are truly 100 x 120 then we should be able to fit an 80 x 80 track with room for pit tables and a drivers stand. I dont think it would be wise to have a covered track and no covered pit tables. I have a couple layout drawn up so I'll have to post them up tommorow.  The other thing I think we have to keep in mind is that a brushed Rc should also be able to make it around the track just as smothly as any mod Rc.  Just my 2 cents.
