I'm sure nobody has thought of it, well they probably HAVE and I haven't looked deeply enough but in Rc Helicopter world they would talk about destroyed
LiPo's (Taco'ed) after a Nose-in-Crash, they even have a Social Groups dedicated to the subject. But it seems to me the Hard Cases (HC) the car/truck guys use
would/could/might HELP us Heli guys. Sure there's the weight penalty but I'm sure HC's are not that heavy, the extra weight would be manageable I would
think !?! Thumbs, UP or Down without the "POLL" and/or thoughts and opinions ?

Hmmm, that's a great thought! I would think that EVERY aspect of RC could benefit from using HC LiPo packs. I know my long since deceased F-35 EDF would have ;) At least the battery would not have dissintegrated! With planes at least, we can add more weight to get the CG right, and add a bigger motor!
    Thumbs Up w00d!

    Thanks GC ...

Was trying to think up teh negatives and all I came up beside the "weight issue" is it don't happen all that often or is such a rare occurrence is it worth the effort !?!

A lot of us do not use hc lipid since we can't see the battery, with a hard case you can't tell when a lipo is puffing so a lot of us choose not to use them. Second the hard case takes up space and won't fit in some areas. Third if a crash is bad enough a hc case won't help at all.

I plan on powering my tricopter with the hard case lipos that I have for my SC trucks. Not because of any technical advantage, but because it's what I have.

Nothing is CRASH Proof ... If the SMACK is hard enough we can trash just about anything our imagination can think off, bust an ATOM and see what happens! With helicopters the force needed in relation the amount it costs to fix is relatively small. All we can do is edge our bets, so even a small improvement is a plus thus is potentially money saved. The amount of available "space" could be an issue but for most there's plenty room under the canopy! LiPo puffing is a problem but also it's a given we can't see teh battery while in flight without binocular-X-Ray-vision anyway so we have to rely on other methods to detect LiPo issues and problems other than w/ our vision. Yes vision is the quickest and easiest but it's not the only or the exclusive. Point being because a particular problem/solution needs additional thought and/or a workaround it's no reason not to use it or work with it. If an "idea" solves or lessens a problem any limitation becomes secondary to the solution thus is good engineering, the only requirement is that we at least try!
