This will be a great video that will be reviewed countless times as RC aircraft becomes banned and outlawed. At least it did not fall onto the eyeballs of an infant while laying in the stroller, so the process will just be a bit slower... http://www.suasnews.com/2012/10/19348/multirotor-hits-skyscraper-and-burns-downtown-auckland-nz
I noticed a few things about this fllight: - The pilot noticed something and put his radio down the check it (approx. 0:23) and seems to be connecting something. - Looks like something smoked (ESC?) on takeoff (approx. 0:58). I was also surprised this pilot just goes for it and climbs straight away after takeoff. It would have been prudent to hover a bit and test the controls before just climbing like that. This guy didn't look like a newbie. Maybe he lost control immediately after takeoff and it flew itself to the crash site. Interesting that it was rotating all the way up. Notice that the guy to his right had just pulled down his FPV goggles and then put them back up and stopped the guy from taking off. That's when he went over and put his hands down really low like he was turning on the camera. Did you notice that the FPV guy also had a second transmitter? I suppose to control the camera. As for the smoke, I think that much had to come from the batteries or maybe esc's and batteries. The guy definitely spent some money that day. ...Tiger
Certainly the smoke while the octacopter is in a pile on the ground after the crash was the batteries. I'm talking about the smoke on takeoff that I mentioned at about 0:58, that was not the batteries. I bet he fried a ESC on takeoff and that caused the yaw into the building then either the crash or the burned ESC took the batteries out.
