hey fellas i have a airbrush kit that i have never used until yesterday.it was a horrible experience not to mention messy.my paint mixtures and gun settings are way off.after a few seconds the paint would come out like silly string,i even thinned the paint mixture.who's the airbrush guru that could help me?
I've painted at 3 bodies in my experience with an air brush, so I'm no guru. One thing I learned from reading the forums is to use a mixture of 1/3 windex, 1/3 denatured alcohol and 1/3 paint. This results in a very thin paint mixture and will require several coats. I've had success using craft acrylic paint from Walmart. I picked up enough primary colors to last me 20 years, for less than $10. Here's my second attempt.
nice job i'm tired of doing the same ole one color rattlecan paint jobs, even tho they turn out great.have you ever forgot to scotchbright your body before you painted it? yup,it sucks.
What were you using as a thinner? What kind of paints are you using? The biggest thing to remember when airbrushing is the consistency of your paints should be like 2% milk, the reason your paint was coming out stringy can contribute to a few different factors, air pressure or improper mixture of your paint. If you are using to low of an air pressure the paint will dry as it is coming out of the gun (hence stringy) If you mixture is to thick it will dry faster as well. water based paints spray at a different pressure then lacquer base, and depending on what type of work you are doing your pressure needs to be adjusted to the work. I run a iwata dual action and use lacquer based paints that I thin with denatured alcohol or paint thinner, and if I am doing detail work I am usually running a 8 psi or lower pressure, for large cover I run close to 14 - 20 psi. I will try and find some of my work for ya.
